Physics I Laboratory
This laboratory features activities for the first semester physics course, including measurements, linear and rotational motion, vectors, statics and dynamics. The course is offered as calculus-based and algebra-based sections. The exercises are typically done in room 307 of the E.E. O’Banion (New) Science Building.
The laboratory is equipped with Dell workstations that run PASCO ’s Data Studio software with Science Workshop interfaces. Some of the exercises are computer-assisted, and some are not, but all are taken together to provide the student with hands-on experience that aids in the understanding of a physics concept as well as enables the student to become familiar with the laboratory environment.
The benefits to students include exposure to state-of-the-art equipment and computer programs (comparable to those at major universities across the U.S.), experience in working in teams, acquisition of critical thinking skills, and technical report writing experience.
The benefit to the community, the State of Texas and the nation is an enhanced state of preparedness for the workforce.
