Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)/Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) Dual Degree Option

4+1 Program in Accounting

The 4+1 program in accounting is designed to help undergraduate accounting majors transition smoothly into the master of science in accounting (MSA) program. Upon successful completion of the BBA/MSA 4+1 program, students would earn two degrees: a bachelor of business administration (BBA) in accounting and a master of science in accounting.

Besides enhancement of knowledge in accounting, there are several benefits to completing the 4+1 program

  • BBA/MSA students can double count two courses toward the degree requirements of both programs (BBA and MSA).
  • The program helps students earn additional academic coursework and hours needed to sit for the CPA exam.
  • The program is structured so that students can have internship experiences in spring and fall semesters instead of only summer semesters.
  • Additional programs and financial support are available for students in their fifth year of the program.

Completion of Two Degrees

Upon successful completion of the 4+1 program, students would be awarded the BBA in Accounting and MS in Accounting degrees. Students must be fully admitted to the Office of Graduate Studies, the College of Business and satisfy the degree requirements for the MS in Accounting.

Admission

Business students may apply for admission into the 4+1 program after completing their sophomore year of the bachelor of business administration program by signing a letter of intent. Admission will be based on consideration of multiple factors, such as a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.75 in the major area and other relevant evidence of academic achievement and leadership ability.

Although students cannot apply for admission into the 4+1 program prior to their sophomore year of the BBA program, it is strongly advised that interested students contact the department head or the 4+1 program coordinator regarding interest in the program for proper advisement.
