Purpose

This award honors full-time PVAMU staff members in the early stages of their higher education careers for demonstrating professional excellence and showcasing outstanding potential for future contributions. The accomplishments and contributions of those selected are highly meritorious and worthy of recognition. The award is primarily based on the accomplishments of the nominee during the current and/or previous academic year.

Eligibility

A nominee for the Staff Rising Star Award must be a full-time staff member who has been employed at PVAMU for at least three consecutive years. Past awardees are not eligible for nomination for five years. The nominee should:

  1. Demonstrate a strong commitment to service, both within the university and in the broader community.
  2. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance their skills in higher education leadership and service overall.
  3. Show solid potential for future contributions to the university community as a whole.

Award Amount

Amount will be announced yearly.

Nomination and Selection Process

A call for nomination is issued through Campus Announcements. Nominations are open to all members of the PV community. Self-nominations are not allowed.

Review Process

The Senior Vice President for Business Affairs (SVPBA) or their designee shall appoint a review committee. The committee will include representation from mid-level managers (assistant vice presidents and/or executive directors), one Staff Council representative, and one Faculty Senate representative. Previous awardees, if available, will be included on the committee.

The committee will review nominations and may interview candidates and request additional documentation supporting the achievements. From those nominations, the committee will select up to three finalists and make its recommendation to the SVPBA.

Supporting Documentation

Nominations should include:

  • A letter of nomination
  • A summary of the nomineeā€™s most outstanding professional achievements and potential for future contributions
  • Nomineeā€™s current resume

Recommendation letters from students and/or employees are encouraged. The application packet should adequately address the evaluation criteria listed under Eligibility.

Final Selection

The SVPBA, from the list of three finalists presented by the committee, will select the award winner.Ā The announcement and recognition of the individual(s) selected will be made during the Employee Awards Ceremony in the spring.
