Purpose

This award is the highest honor bestowed on faculty members by PVAMU. The accomplishments and contributions of those selected are highly meritorious and worthy of recognition. They have had an impact on not only PVAMU, but also on the broader community, the state of Texas, and/or at the national and international levels.

Award

The Presidential award is based on the accomplishments of the nominee up to the previous academic year. The nominees are expected to have functioned as a role model for teaching and scholarship and devoting appropriate service to the university, both ceremonial and professional.

Eligibility

A nominee for the Presidential Award shall be a full-time senior member of the faculty who has held an appointment at PV for a period of not less than three consecutive years.

The President’s Award Nominee should have:

  • A record of distinguished teaching
  • A structured record of scholarly accomplishments.
  • A record of outstanding service to the university.

Nomination and Selection Process

A call for nomination is issued through Campus Announcements. Nominations are open to all members of the PV community.

Review Process

The president or her designee shall appoint a review/selection committee. It is recommended that the review/selection committee include a representative from the faculty and a past President’s Faculty Award recipient to serve as an ex-officio representative.

The appointed committee will review the nominating packet and may interview candidates. From those nominations, the committee will select up to three finalists and make its recommendation to the president.

Supporting Documentation

Nominations should include:

  • A letter of nomination.
  • A summary of the nominee’s most outstanding achievements in the area of teaching, research, and service.
  • A current and moderately detailed vita

Final Selection

The president, from the list of finalists presented by the committee, will select the Presidential Award winner. The announcement and recognition of the individual(s) selected will be made during an Awards Ceremony.
