Purpose

To recognize exemplary performance of staff members who consistently excel in their positions, demonstrate integrity, and display a strong commitment to the mission and values of the university.

Eligibility

Nominees for the Staff Awards shall be full-time employees at PVAMU for a period of not less than one year and are intended to recognize those employees below the title of Vice President or President. Any person may nominate a staff member who has demonstrated outstanding achievements based on any of the criteria outlined below. A nomination letter must cite the award for which the staff member is nominated and provide documents to support the nomination. Self-nominations are not permitted.

Nomination and Selection Process

A call for nominations is issued in Campus Announcements. Nominations are open to all members of the PV community. A Committee made up of both faculty and staff will select the finalists and winners. The announcement and recognition of the individual(s) selected will be made during the Staff Awards Ceremony.

Supporting Documentation

  • A letter of nomination
  • A summary of the nomineeā€™s most outstanding achievements.
  • A current and moderately detailed resume.

Awards and Selection Criteria

Five Staff awards may be chosen based on the following awards and selection criteria:

Initiative and Creativity

  • Staff members who significantly improved a work process or system; have significantly increased the efficiency of an operation or department or consistently sought to improve the quality of work assigned.
  • Award Amount: Amount will be announced yearly. The award is taxable.

Personal accomplishments

  • Staff members who significantly increased the visibility of PVAMU on the national or world stage, while advancing the mission of the university.
  • Award Amount: Amount will be announced yearly. The award is taxable.

Team accomplishments

  • Staff members who facilitated or led a cohesive team to achieve an important shared goal.
  • Award Amount: Amount will be announced yearly. The award is taxable.

Customer Support Award

  • Staff members who:
    • Resolve customer concerns in an efficient, effective manner, making customers feel valued and appreciated.
    • Respond promptly to questions and requests and take responsibility for meeting customer needs.
    • Build strong relationships, proactively reaching out to learn about customer goals and interests.
    • Actively gather and monitor information on customer satisfaction.
  • Award Amount: Amount will be announced yearly. The award is taxable.

Cooperative Extension Program (CEP) Staff Award

  • This award recognizes Cooperative Extension Program (CEP) staff members who have made significant contributions to the organization and positively impacted the lives of individuals and families. General eligibility and section criteria include:
    • A nominee must be employed with the Cooperative Extension Program for at least one year and have a minimum of a 50 percent Extension appointment.
    • Outstanding subject matter knowledge, competency and strong professional qualities that are a credit to the Cooperative Extension Program and meeting the needs of limited resource clientele.
    • Creative and innovative approaches developed to improve effectiveness and/or efficiency of their respective unit.
    • Outstanding ability to communicate with the public and secure adoption of educational programs through media, training programs, demonstrations, conferences and personal contacts.
    • Cooperates with co-workers, university personnel, and personnel in other agencies and organizations in providing impactful and effective outreach programs.
    • Performs duties and assigned tasks above the normal expected level.
    • Recognition as an outstanding professional in their field.
    • Award Amount: Amount will be announced yearly. The award is taxable.
