Purpose

The Excellence in Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship Award honors PVAMU faculty/staff members for their exceptional accomplishments in Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship activities, demonstrating a strong commitment to elevate PVAMU research and innovation mission. The accomplishments and contributions of those selected are highly meritorious and worthy of recognition. The selected personnel is expected to function as a role model for increasing Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship activities by faculty/staff at PVAMU.

Eligibility

A nominee for the Excellence in Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship Award shall be a full-time member of the faculty/staff who holds an appointment at PVAMU for a period not less than two consecutive years. Nominees must have a consistent and distinguished record of Innovation, Commercialization and/or Entrepreneurship activities in the last 2 to 3 years, demonstrating a strong commitment to elevate PVAMU overall research and innovation mission. The nominee should demonstrate a structured excellence in the following five categories, as applicable:

  1. Innovation & Patenting
  2. Licensing and contracting
  3. Commercialization Partnerships
  4. Entrepreneurship and Start-up
  5. Economic Development

Award Amount

Amount will be announced yearly. The award is taxable.

Nomination Process

A call for nominations is issued in Campus Announcements. Nominations are open to all members of the PV community. Self-nominations are not acceptable.

Selection Process and Award

The Vice President or his/her designee shall appoint a review committee made up of faculty and staff. Previous awardees, if available, will be included on the committee.

The committee will review nominations and may interview candidates and request additional documentation supporting the accomplishments. From those nominations, the committee may select up to three finalists and make its recommendation to the Vice President by March 1.

The Vice President will select the Award winner from the list of three finalists presented by the committee. The announcement and recognition of the individual(s) selected will be made during the Faculty/Staff Awards Ceremony in spring.

Supporting Documentation

Nominations should include:

  • Nomination/cover letter (2 pages max)
  • A current curriculum vita (10 pages max)
  • List of the nomineeā€™s outstanding achievements in the five categories (5 pages max)
    1. Innovation & Patenting (disclosures, Patent applications, Awarded Patents)
    2. Licensing and contracting activities (Active or prospective licensing or contracting)
    3. Commercialization Partnerships (Public/Private organization partnerships)
    4. Entrepreneurship and Start-up company activities (Business plan competitions)
    5. Economic Development activities (local, regional, statewide economic impact)
