College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Our testing lab is currently closed for CLEP testing.

If students need to test: then they should locate an open CLEP test center by going to https://clep.collegeboard.org/test-center-search and send the scores to our institution. Our College Board institution code is 6580. Upon completion of exam, students must complete a PLA request form at https://www.pvamu.edu/student-success/sass/testing/pla/ap/request/ so that the process of credit articulation can begin upon the arrival of the transcript to the university.

If you are going to take the exam, then you should look into the Modern States course for that exam. Modern States is a program that offers study courses for CLEP exams free of charge to help students prepare for CLEP tests. Information about the Modern States CLEP course catalog can be found at https://modernstates.org/course/.
Also once you have completed the Modern States course, you can request a voucher code so that you can take the test. PVAMU Credit By Exam – CLEP

The College Board College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a national testing program that offers students the opportunity to take exams in order to obtain college-level credit. CLEP offers more than 33 exams in multiple subject areas. The American Council on Education (ACE) recommends that test-takers receive a passing score of 50 in order to be awarded credit, however qualifying scores vary by department and college. Prairie View A&M University accepts scores from certain CLEP tests for credit in selected courses. Interested students should review the CLEP Course Equivalency Table to view the exams awarded for credit at the university and what course credit they will receive for that CLEP exam. Students should contact an academic counselor to determine which courses will apply to their prospective degree program. Scores must be received from the College Board on an official CLEP transcript before credit is awarded. Students wanting to take a CLEP exam should contact the Office of Testing Services for information on registration and test sites.

After The Exam

If you pass the CLEP exam, you will need to wait until CLEP sends the official CLEP transcript to the Testing Services office. This could take from 2 to 4 weeks. Once the transcript is received, a letter will be sent to the Office of Enrollment Management informing them to grant the student credit for the CLEP exam.

CLEP Retake Policy

90 day waiting period from the date of an exam to retake a CLEP exam.
Test taker is responsible for knowing and adhering to retake policy.
Registration, administration, and test fee applies.

Additional Score Transcripts

If you did not indicate a score recipient institution at the time of your exam, and you want to request your CLEP scores, you can do so by ordering a CLEP Transcript. This transcript is a cumulative score report of all the CLEP exams you’ve taken, and the scores you earned in the last 20 years. The institutional transcripts must be official transcripts in a sealed envelope, and show credit was received for the CLEP exam(s).
