Major:  Psychology, Undergraduate

Faculty Mentor:  Temilola Salami

Research Topic: Vulnerability Factors in Individuals with Serious Mental Illness and The First Responder Study: Assessing and Mitigating the Psychological Consequences of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

RISE Program Highlight:  Being part of the RISE program has introduced me to new research areas. Some significant highlights include earning a first-place award for my ongoing research at my initial poster presentation and being in the company of accomplished Black women professionals in my field. My interest in research expanded to Serious Mental Illness (SMI) after completing an internship with the Veteran Affairs this school year. I am grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had at PVAMU, and I want to emphasize that I am the second person, following my mother, to graduate from college. Continuing her legacy is a major achievement for me.

Post-graduation plans: I plan to take a gap year during which I will work in the field of psychology, either in research setting or in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)therapy. Following this year, I will begin pursuing my doctorate in Clinical Psychology, focusing on Serious Mental Illness.

The  Research and Innovation Success and Excellence (Faculty) Program (RISE), an initiative created by Prairie View A&M University’s Vice President of Research and Innovation, Magesh Rajan, Ph.D., P.E., invests in critical research and innovation domains. It fosters collaboration across disciplines among PVAMU faculty, students, and University partners.
