PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (May 2, 2025) — Priscila Saint Pasteur Soto, an undergraduate majoring in Architecture at PVAMU, stands at the forefront of educational innovation through her participation in the Prairie View A&M University’s Faculty RISE program.

Under the guidance of Tareef Khan, Ph.D., assistant professor of practice, Priscila’s research, titled “Student’s Perception of Teacher’s Role in the Classroom: A Case Study on Architectural Design Studios,” explores the profound impact of instructors on student development within design education. Her study examines how varying teaching styles influence student performance across different learning styles and academic levels.

“Priscila has been working as my RISE mentee for two years, assisting me in my research projects. She is a meticulous learner,” said Dr. Khan. “Priscila is precision.”

Reflecting on the value of the program, Dr. Khan added, “The RISE program is providing me with the opportunity to mentor prospective undergraduate and graduate students and to train them to become future researchers.”

Looking ahead, Priscila plans to pursue a Master of Architecture (M.Arch) post-graduation, aspiring to become a licensed architect dedicated to innovative, community-focused design. Her research underscores the significance of inclusive and adaptive teaching methods in creative disciplines, framed through Kolb’s learning styles (Divergers, Assimilators, Convergers, and Accommodators). By advocating for more effective communication, empathy, and understanding in the studio environment, Priscila aims to enhance design education significantly.

Priscila Saint Pasteur Soto’s work not only enriches architectural discourse but also promises to shape the future of design education by advocating for a more holistic and inclusive approach to teaching and learning. “The highlight of my experience in the RISE Program has been the opportunity to explore the powerful influence instructors have on students’ development in design education,” Priscila explains. “This experience has allowed me to delve deeply into both the academic and human aspects of education.”

The RISE program is an initiative led by Prairie View A&M University’s Vice President of Research and Innovation, Magesh Rajan, Ph.D., P.E.  The program focuses on advancing critical research and innovation while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among PVAMU faculty, students, and university partners.
