PRAIRIE VIEW, TEXAS (December 6, 2021) Raghava Rao Kommalapati, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE, F.ASCE has been awarded $148,000 by the U.S. Department of Interior through the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) in the second phase of the Ocean Energy Safety Institute (OESI).

Kommalapati is the director of the CREST Center for Energy and Environmental Safety and a professor of civil and environmental engineering.

OESI was established in 2013 by the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE, Department of the Interior) in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon incident to increase the safety of offshore oil & gas operations.

Roadmap activities and results will be used to establish strategic direction, provide leadership, manage intellectual property and data, and form the basis for development proposals.
