Students are eligible to apply for financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants and loans through the Office for Financial Aid and Scholarships (PVAMU) and the College of Nursing. In addition, several organizations offer nursing scholarships to nursing majors.
Scholarships
Scholarships are gifts that do not have to be repaid. A limited number of scholarships are available to nursing students as per the criteria for the award. Information on applying can be obtained through the Office for Financial Aid and Scholarships.
PVAMU Nurses Alumni Chapter Scholarship
The State of Texas Nursing Students Scholarship Program (Nurse Stipend) promotes healthcare and educational needs by providing scholarships to eligible Texas residents enrolled/accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), including Generic BSN and LVN-BSN students. Awards are < $500 and only for the spring term. Applications to CON students are emailed in November.
Requirements:
- No References or Student Organization Membership Needed
- Must be a current or admitted CON student (Generic BSN or LVN-BSN Program)
- Applicant must have a major GPA of 2.5 and in good standing
- Applicant must be enrolled in 12 semester hours
- Scholarship is need-based
- Applicant must be a US citizen, I-151 or I-6878
Non-Resident Tuition Waivers
Requirements:
Full-time CON Generic BSN or LVN-BSN Student in good standing
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident with residency in another state (Not Texas)
- Recipient of a competitive university/college scholarship of at least $1,000 (multiple scholarships cannot be combined to meet this minimum; the individual scholarship must be $1,000 or higher)
- Submit Financial Aid Award Letter displaying the $1,000 Scholarship
- Applications become available to CON and Pre-Nursing Students beginning in May.
