Director of Research

Greetings and welcome to the Office of Nursing Research and Clinical Scholarship (ONRCS) at Prairie View A&M University College of Nursing (CON). The ONRCS was recently established for the express purpose of advancing research productivity among faculty and students. According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), nursing research and scholarship is critical to improving outcomes in the clinical practice setting. The AACN defines nursing scholarship as rigorous inquiry in the areas of teaching, research, and practice that advances the nursing profession.

Toward our goal to increase research productivity, CON faculty have obtained extramural funding for several projects in the past two years. We have received funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to train advance practice nurses in implementation science, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on student progress, and the Texas Department of State Health Services to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates in the community. These projects are evidence of the potential of the CON to successfully compete for extramural funding and contribute to maintaining the University’s R2 status.

A near goal of the CON is to establish a center for nursing research. This center will focus on simulation pedagogy, capitalizing on our state-of-the art simulation laboratory, and translation of evidence-based research findings. These two areas of focus will support the CON’s mission to contribute to reducing health disparities in the communities we serve.

Currently, Dr. Jerrel Moore and I comprise the staff of the ONRS, providing research support to CON faculty and students. Dr. Moore serves as the biostatistician and, with my training in epidemiology and experience in health research, I am able to support and assist research development. Through the support of the ONRS, CON faculty will continue to succeed in the research arena and provide experiences for our students; thus, training the nurse scientists of the future.

Feel free to explore our website for more details on ongoing research at the CON and the research interests of our faculty.

Regards.
