Dating and Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another person through fear, intimidation, and manipulation.

There are many forms of abuse and they are: Physical, Sexual, Emotional and Verbal, Spiritual, and Economical.

There are many signs of an abusive relationship.

Abusive Partner Victim
Intimidate Have constant fear of your partner everyday
Manipulate Feel helplessness, emotionless, and “crazy”
Humiliate Believe you deserved the mistreatment from your partner
Isolate Feel scared or embarrassed to disclose the abuse to family/friends/roommates
Frighten Try to do all the right things to keep your partner happy
Terrorize You are in fear that your partner will harm you
Threaten Feel your partner’s temper is unpredictable
Blame Feel your partner blames you for their on abusive
Hurt, injure and/or cause bruising Try to hide injuries from people

Strangulation Education

Facts about strangulation:

  • Strangulation is an automatic felony in the state of Texas.
  • This is a felony punishable by two to ten years for the first offense, and two to twenty years for repeat convictions.
  • Victims may die from internal injuries from strangulation up to 72 hours after the incident has occurred.
