WHAT IS INTERNSHIP?

Internship is a single work assignment, usually done during the summer.  Like Co-op, a student may receive academic credit for an internship in accordance to established rules.  There are unlimited work periods during the summer, semester breaks, and some holidays for an intern.

Another form of internship is the research apprenticeship.  Research apprenticeship is an opportunity where talented students send a summer in a research position with a leading university.  Some students have conducted research at universities such as:  University of Texas Health Science Center, Baylor College of Medicine, Duke University, Michigan State University, Iowa State, Harvard University and Yale University.

  • Establish a file with the co-op/intern office, and update the file each semester (i.e., grade summary or transcript, resume, phone number, etc.).

  • Register with prospective department to receive academic credit prior to the co-op/internship assignment.
  • Notify Career Services of any offers received and accepted/declined.
