In the Summer of 2020, PVAMU will begin offering its new Bachelor’s Degree (BS or BA) in General Studies (GNST). The degree is a customized set of study that allows the student to pursue an academic program that fits their educational, professional, and career goals. Through individualized advising, the program helps students define their educational goals and design multidisciplinary curricula drawing on a variety of course offerings.

The purpose of the degree program is (1) to provide flexibility to students with broad interests, (2) to offer an option to those with new interests or those changing their majors late in their academic careers, and (3) to maximize opportunities for individuals to pursue graduate studies and advance their careers.

Our General Studies degree plan is flexible to meet the academic and career goals of traditional and non-traditional student scholars. While you may be required to take some traditional face-to-face courses to complete the University Core Requirements and in your chosen Concentrations of Study, the required 9 SCH in General Studies courses are entirely online. Additionally, we offer American Sign Language I & II (SGNL 1301 and SGNL 1302) asynchronously online as an option to fulfill the 6 SCH requirement for a foreign language.

Staying on track and ensuring you’re taking the suitable courses at the right time can be overwhelming, but don’t lose focus. The Office for Undergraduate Studies provides individualized academic advisement for all General Studies majors to assist students in navigating the registration process and developing their personalized degree plan by checking our degree plan.
