PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (November 22, 2022) M. Javari Henderson, a senior at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) majoring in architecture with a minor in construction science, is a student researcher with a bright future ahead of him. Upon graduation in May of 2023, Henderson plans to work for an architecture firm that allows him to continue to explore creative design and hopes to travel the world.
Henderson is part of the PVAMU Faculty Research & Innovation for Scholarly Excellence Faculty RISE – Undergraduate Research Grant Program with Marco Robinson, Ph.D., Associate Professor of history and Assistant Director of the Ruth J. Simmons Center for Race and Justice, serving as his mentor.

“Javari is an exceptional student, and he represents the university well as a student, researcher, and community ambassador,” said Robinson. “His commitment to academic excellence and addressing issues within his local community puts him into a class of his own. Javari will leave our campus ready and willing to have a positive impact on society.“
Henderson works as a RISE student researcher. Through the RISE program, faculty members can sustain and expand their research by successfully competing for external grants and contracts. They mentor undergraduate students to become the next generation of experts.
“The highlight of my experience since being in the RISE Program has been witnessing how my career aspirations are tied to more than just the construction of a building.” said Henderson, “Through the Political Science department, I was able to find a parallel between history, design, and preservation.”
For Henderson, the true value of his research experience came from the campus itself. “PVAMU has an incredibly rich history that I am glad I get to bring awareness to,” said Henderson. “The RISE Program has given me a platform to impact Prairie View, TX through research, landscape proposals, and effective leadership skills.”
