PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (April 22, 2025) — LeAndrea Stovall embarked on her research journey at the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center at Prairie View A&M University in February 2024, following a recommendation from a former professor. Her focus on food safety aligns closely with her current academic pursuits, making her project both personally meaningful and professionally relevant.
“My time at the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center has been incredibly enriching,” Stovall reflects. “Beyond my main project, I’ve contributed to various tasks such as constructing fences in the Student Garden and distributing farm produce to faculty.”
Collaborating with fellow researchers and student assistants has been a highlight for Stovall. “These experiences have not only expanded my skill set but also fostered new friendships and mentorships,” she explains.
Initially guided through foundational laboratory techniques, Stovall appreciates the gradual independence granted by mentors like Laura Carson, Ph.D., and Addisie Geremew, Ph.D. “Their support has bolstered my confidence in lab procedures,” she notes, “allowing me to tackle tasks autonomously.”
Beyond the lab, Stovall appreciates the chance to present her research at academic conferences, an experience that has expanded her knowledge and professional network.
“Attending conferences across the country has broadened my perspective,” she said. “I’ve had the opportunity to engage with researchers from different institutions, learn about a wide range of scientific topics, and gain insight into potential career paths in academia and industry.”
Summing up her experience, Stovall expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided by the Faculty-RISE program. ‘This journey has not only shaped my academic path but also enriched my personal growth,’ she said.
The RISE program is an initiative led by Prairie View A&M University’s Vice President of Research and Innovation, Magesh Rajan, Ph.D., P.E. The program focuses on advancing critical research and innovation while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among PVAMU faculty, students, and university partners.
