PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (July 9, 2025) — Isaac Jones doesn’t merely study biology — he explores the fundamental components of life with purpose and precision.
Now in his third year at Prairie View A&M University, Jones is involved in the Faculty-RISE Program, conducting research titled “The Histological Analysis of Pneumococcal Keratitis in a Murine Model.” His work integrates microbiology, pathology, and advanced micro-imaging techniques to examine disease at the cellular level.
“I’ve had an incredible opportunity to delve into microbiology and pathology,” Jones shared. “Each step has been a learning experience, particularly in mastering new micro-imaging methods and executing my project.”
Jones receives mentorship from Quincy Moore, Ph.D., who has supported his growth throughout the research journey.
“Working with Isaac over the past year has been rewarding,” Moore said. “He brings a remarkable curiosity, discipline, and drive to the lab. His meticulous attention to detail and determination to unravel the ‘why’ and ‘how’ behind scientific questions demonstrate the potential of a future physician-scientist. He has already uncovered significant findings that we plan to present at a national conference in the upcoming academic year.”
Beyond the lab, Jones has broadened his horizons through off-campus experiences. In the summer of 2024, he participated in a research program at Texas A&M University, investigating neurology, particularly the behavioral distinctions between male and female crickets. This experience solidified his passion for neuroscience.
Jones also attended the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists (ABRCMS), engaging with neuroscience panels and networking with professionals and peers who share his research interests.
Upon graduation, Jones aims to pursue a dual M.D./Ph.D. through a medical scientist training program, focusing on research into neurodegenerative disorders. “There’s still much to uncover, and I want to contribute to the solutions,” he affirmed.
The Faculty-RISE program, spearheaded by Prairie View A&M University’s Vice President of Research and Innovation, Magesh Rajan, Ph.D., P.E., emphasizes advancing critical research and innovation while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among PVAMU faculty, students, and university partners.
