PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (November 10, 2021) The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded Ali Fares, Ph.D., $749,719 to address the needs in Smart Agriculture System and Food Safety.

Fares, professor of water security in the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences (CAHS), collaborates on this project with Co-PI’s Peter Ampim, Ripendra Awal, and Ram Ray from the CAHS; Ahmed Ahmed, Computer Science, and Rukeia Draw-Hood from the Cooperative Extension program of Prairie View A&M University.  The project also includes Co-PI’s Rabi Mohtar, Janie Moore, Kim Dooley, and Robert Strong from Texas A&M University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Getagsmart: Building Capacity In Smart Agricultural Technologies For Underserved Communities is funded through the Food and Agricultural Non-formal Education program.  Fares and his team aim to increase agricultural production without degrading natural resource quality and build the resiliency of production systems to changing climate.
