The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) is responsible for administration of the University’s Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Research Compliance Committee. Through the IBC committee and related programs and activities, the Office of Research Compliance develops and implements university policies related to biosafety. The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is the committee responsible for the review of research and teaching activities involving recombinant or synthetic DNA, biohazardous agents, and bio-toxins at Prairie View A&M University. All activities involving recombinant or synthetic DNA, biohazardous agents, and bio-toxins, conducted by Prairie View A&M University faculty, staff or students, must be approved by the IBC, prior to the beginning of work.

IBC Training Requirements
- All Investigators: Complete the CITI Basic Biosafety Training
- Principal Investigator Training: Completed via TrainTraq 211485 : NIH Guidelines for Principal Investigators – Biosafety
- Biosafety Level 2 Training: 2111758 : Biosafety Level 2 Training – Initial. The first class must be done in person either with the TAMUS Chief Research Compliance Officer, Dr. Bruce Whitney or through the TAMU Biosafety Office. Subsequent refresher classes 211486 : Biosafety Level 2 Training – Biosafety can be taken via Train Traq. To register for the in-person training, please contact the Office of Research Compliance at researchcompliance@pvamu.edu.
- Non-TAMU System employees: All non-System employees who require IBC training must complete their training using the external gateway. The password will be provided by the Research Compliance Office upon request.

To Amend an IBC Protocol
- All amendments to approved protocols must be submitted to the IBC prior to implementation. Amendments may include, but are not limited to: Addition of personnel, Change in experiment location, and Change in agents. Complete and submit the IBC Amendment Form to the Office of Research Compliance.
IBC Protocol Continuation
- 30 days before your initial approval expires, complete and submit the IBC Protocol Annual Update Form to the Office of Research Compliance– Updated 5/21/19
IBC Project (Protocol) Completion
- Once the project is complete, submit the IBC Completion Report to the Office of Research Compliance.
