The Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society was founded in 1937 and is a long standing certified member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Founded in 1925, ACHS sets standards for organizational excellence and scholastic eligibility and is the nation’s only certifying agency for collegiate honor societies.

The Alpha Pi Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society was chartered on the campus of Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) in 1950 as a means of recognizing the academic achievement of students. In Fall 2019, the chapter was reactivated by the Director of the PVAMU Honors Program – Dr. Quincy C. Moore, III.

Alpha Kappa Mu is a general scholarship honor society open to junior, senior, and graduate students in all academic areas who meet the requirements of the society. Our purpose is to promote high scholarship; to encourage sincere and zealous endeavor in all fields of knowledge and service; to cultivate a high order of personal living; and to develop an appreciation for scholarship and scholarly endeavor in others.
