How do I join The Honors Program?

Admission into the Honors Program is competitive and by interview. If a student receives a Regent’s University Scholarship or a Presidential University Scholarship their first year, the student will be invited to apply to the Honors Program.

What is the required grade point average to be in the Honors Program?

The grade point average minimum to be a student in the Honors Program is a 3.5 or higher, and must not receive a failing grade (D, F, or NP) in any course.

What are the courses and activities Honors Program students are involved in?

The program requires active participation, enrolling in Honors Colloquium and a year of Honors Chinese or Spanish. Students attend advising sessions, participate in group projects, community service, workshops, and scholarly events on campus. Honors Program students are required to attend a research program or internship every summer, and lastly, to be recognized as an Honors Program graduate, students are to complete a senior thesis.

Does the Honors Program offer scholarships?

All scholarships are through the Scholarship Office.

Is there Honors Housing?

Yes. The Honors Program has partnered with American Campus Communities in designating a portion of their residential units to our first-year students and upperclassmen. From their first year in the program, our students are grouped together to create a living atmosphere for learning. The advantage of housing Honors students together is that it increases participation in study groups, critical thinking activities, and student life.

Student who are not admitted to the Honors Program, but meet the criteria, are placed on a “Honors Track” in the residential area. For more information, please visit the Housing and Residence Life page.

Can I apply to other programs or be involved in extracurricular activities while in the Honors Program?

Yes. Not only do we look for students who have a well-rounded academic profile, we encourage it. Many of our students are involved in sports, band, clubs, sororities, fraternities, and other outstanding programs on campus. The Honors Program is focused on developing students from every discipline to tackle local and global challenges through scholarly work. This program will persist in promoting innovation and creativity in every student, and we look forward to the continued success of preparing scholars for a global impact.
