Governance and Policy Development

We actively participate in the formulation and review of university policies affecting academic affairs, faculty rights, and the overall educational environment. Our work includes:

• Proposing and reviewing policies to enhance academic standards and integrity.
• Collaborating with university administration on issues related to faculty welfare and development.
• Serving on university committees to represent faculty interests in university governance.

Faculty Advocacy

The Faculty Senate serves as the advocate for faculty interests, ensuring that their voices are heard and considered in university decisions. This includes:

• Addressing concerns related to faculty workload, tenure, promotion, and evaluation processes.
• Advocating for competitive compensation, benefits, and professional development opportunities.

Academic Excellence

We are committed to fostering an environment that supports teaching excellence, research innovation, and community engagement. Our initiatives include:

• Recognizing and celebrating faculty achievements in teaching, research, and service.
• Encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and research initiatives.
• Supporting curriculum development and enhancement to meet the evolving needs of our students and society.

Achievements

The Faculty Senate is proud of its contributions to the continuous improvement of Prairie View A&M University. Some of our recent achievements include:

• The development and implementation of a revised faculty evaluation system that more accurately reflects the diverse contributions of our faculty.
• The establishment of a faculty professional development fund, aimed at supporting faculty in their pursuit of advanced research and teaching methodologies.
• The creation of a university-wide mentorship program for junior faculty, promoting professional growth and integration into the Prairie View A&M community.
