Resources For Students who do NOT have required hardware

  • Laptops provided by the Laptop Loaner Program, as well laptops in the kiosks in the MSC and Library are chromebooks that boot directly into a virtual instance of Windows 10.  Thus they are compatible with all tools.  There is a slight chance that an advanced user may be able to bypass the boot restriction.
  • New Science 123 Computer Lab can be used if students lack the required hardware. The lab is open Monday-Friday 8 am to 5 pm.  Class sessions are periodically scheduled.  Access to lab is not guaranteed during those times.  Students may be able to access lab during class sessions, but will not have a quite environment to work.
  • Students can also go to the J.B. Coleman Library room 210, Northwest Houston Center or the Medical Center Nursing Campus computer labs.
    • STUDENTS, IMPORTANT NOTE: If your instructor will be recording test attempts, BE SURE TO CONTACT THESE LOCATIONS PRIOR TO TESTING TO MAKE SURE THEIR PCs HAVE WORKING WEBCAMS
    • If the PC lab does not have webcams, you will not be able to take exams that are recorded for remote proctoring.
  • Virtual Desktop Interface (VDI) links to an external site will allow students access to a virtual machine that can use the machine’s local camera. However, students can click out of the VDI at will, removing the effectiveness.  This would not be flagged as an exception because the student’s eyes never need to leave the screen.  This may be an option if you only want to limit their ability to copy questions.
