Prairie View A&M University Pesticide Education Program

All herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides, fungicides, disinfectants, and insect repellents are general terms to denote a pesticide. A pesticide is a mixture of substances or substances intended for: a) preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating any pest; or used as a plant regulator, defoliant, or desiccant. They are classified as either 1) restricted use pesticides (RUPs) or 2) general use (unclassified) pesticides. The general public cannot purchase RUPs. RUPs can cause unreasonable adverse effects to the environment and injury to applicants or bystanders without added restrictions.
