Sustainable Agriculture Program Forestry Production & Management Demonstration Workshop

The Sustainable Forestry and African American Land Retention Program (SFLR) targets East Texas, a high concentration of African American population, forestry land, and African American forestry landowners (AAF). There are over five million acres in East Texas. Most abundant is pine, and oak-hickory is the second timberland. Over a million acres is in Oak-pine, and a million in Oak-gum-cypress are also plentiful. Elm-ash-cottonwood and other types account for relatively small amounts of timberland. Through the Sustainable Forestry and African American Land Retention Program (SFLR), our focus is to assist African American forest landowners with addressing heir’s property issues and forest management planning to retain land and build wealth. For the first couple of years, the program will concentrate on several counties before engaging other counties. However, other forest landowners from other counties’ locations are also welcome to participate during this period—our goal to provide the SFLR throughout all of East Texas to help African American forest landowners with land retention and building wealth. Should you experience difficulty registering for the SFLR Joint Regional Conference, please contact Dr. Clarence Bunch at clbunch@pvamu.edu or Ms. Kandi Williams at williamska@uapb.edu.
