Mission Statement

The Division of Social Sciences is committed to providing a challenging but rewarding learning experience for its students through excellent teaching, research, and service. The primary mission of the Division seeks to advance knowledge in the social sciences and provide an understanding of the complexities of today’s society through its three baccalaureate programs in History, Political Science, and Sociology; its MA Program in Sociology; and its supporting fields, Geography and Philosophy. The Division supports awareness and appreciation of diversity and emphasizes the development of a knowledge base essential for global leadership. The interdisciplinary curriculum promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, civil engagement and fosters an equitable intellectual environment that encourages students to apply knowledge to promoting social change for the well-being of communities and the nation. The Division provides knowledge and skills development with access to the latest methodologies and technologies to meet student’s academic needs to achieve their career and life-long goals.
