Honor Societies and Clubs

The faculty in the Division of Social Sciences advise many student groups. Students have the opportunity to meet peers with similar interests, network with leaders in their fields, and develop professionally. Some of the organizations we work with are listed below. Blackstone Pre-Law Society

Sponsored by the Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center in the College of Juvenile Justice and the Political Science Program in the Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences, the Blackstone Pre-Law Society is open to all students interested in law. The society promotes an awareness of the LSAT and general law school requirements, thereby facilitating preparation for entry into law school.

Phi Alpha Theta International Honor Society

Membership in Phi Alpha Theta International Honor Society is open to undergraduate students who have completed 12 semester hours of history with a grade point average of 3.10 or above in history courses and 3.00 in two-thirds of the remainder of the course work, excluding history.

Political Science Club

The Political Science Club promotes awareness of politics at all levels and facilitate understanding of public policy making through field trips, seminars, lecture series, and other educational activities and is open to all majors.

Rho Nu Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha

Membership in Rho Nu Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honor Society, is open to students, undergraduate and graduate, who have completed at least fifteen quarter hours or ten semester hours of work in government, political science, international relations, or public administration, including at least one course not open to students in the first two years of collegiate work, with an average grade of “B” or higher and who have maintained a standard of general scholarship sufficient to place them within the upper third of their college class.

Sociology Club

The purpose of the Sociology Club is to inform students around campus community about the field of Sociology through informative seminars, research endeavors, social events that promote interaction between students and faculty, and to raise awareness about social issues. The Organization’s Slogan is “Real Recognizing Real” which was Sociology students’ characterization of what they felt they stood for—Real students Recognizing Real Issues—and attempting to address issues impacting the PVAMU campus community.
