The workshops will be highly informative, interactive, and cover some of the topics most requested by students. Best of all, the workshops are led by faculty and staff members here at PVAMU. Effective Communication with Professors: What do I say? I don't want to sound stupid. She probably is busy and doesn't have time for me anyway. Many of these thoughts run through a student's head when speaking with a professor or visiting during office hours. But guess what, they really want to talk to you. This workshop will help you break the ice and work up the nerve to develop open communications with your instructors.
What is Studying?: Do you ever feel like your study habits are not good enough to get you the grades you want? Do you wonder what you could be doing to perform better in class and on exams? Many college students soon realize that their high school study habits are not enough! Join us to learn more study skills and strategies proven effective in college classes.
My Notes are a Mess: How to Take Good Notes and Use Them to Study: In this student-to-student workshop, the essential college skill of notetaking will be covered. The student facilitator(s) will share techniques for effective notetaking that make studying later much more efficient.
Math is Kicking My Butt: Math courses can be a challenge to many students. Math anxiety, poor past performance, or not taking a math course in several years can add to this challenge. There are tricks and techniques to excelling in a math course like most other subjects. In this workshop, you will learn how to excel in your college math course.
Conquering Test Anxiety: The American Test Anxieties Association estimates between 16 and 20% of college students have high anxiety about taking tests or performing well on assignments. In this workshop, you will learn about proven strategies to reduce and alleviate test anxiety and perform to your best ability.
I Need to Do Better: Digging Yourself Out of an Academic Hole: Sometimes, we don't start a course or our college career in the way we had envisioned. Trust me, many of us have been there. Don't lose hope. In this workshop, we will discuss strategies on how to dig yourself out of an academic hole and be the scholar we know you are.
How to Stay Motivated: We all start with the best intentions, but it can be hard to stay motivated somewhere down the line. How do you keep motivated to attend class, study, and do your best day after day, semester after semester?
How to Prepare for Finals: Different tests require different strategies for success. This workshop will cover how to approach essay tests, short answer tests, multiple-choice tests, and more. Students will also learn study tips to retain test information for the exam.
