Panthers Fostering Success (PFS) proudly hosts Opportunity NOW, a Supervised Independent Living (SIL) program meticulously designed to support the transitional journey of young adults (ages 18-21) as they navigate the complexities of independent living post-foster care placement.
This innovative program provides comprehensive assistance, including dedicated caseworker support and essential services, aimed at equipping participants with vital life skills. Notably, Opportunity NOW extends financial aid to cover on-campus housing expenses, encompassing meal plans and a monthly stipend, fostering a conducive environment for personal growth and development.
SIL represents a voluntary extension of foster care support, and pertinent details regarding eligibility criteria and program specifics can be accessed through the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). As highlighted by DFPS, the SIL program at Prairie View A&M University emphasizes the importance of educational and vocational training, stable housing arrangements, financial literacy, and access to healthcare services for young adults transitioning out of foster care.
