PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (October 18, 2022) – The Division of Research & Innovation hosted their Fall 2022 Panthers Invent student competition September 16-18, 2022. Panthers Invent is a weekend-long design challenge led by The Center for Innovation, Commercialization, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development, or ICEED. This competition brings students together from all disciplines and classifications. The Fall 2022 Panthers Invent included twenty-five graduate and undergraduate students who formed five teams to compete for the best solution to real-world need statements. This competition isn’t just about competing; it is also an opportunity to make new connections with peers and gain valuable experience to be used in various industries.

Throughout the competition weekend, students enjoyed being challenged and putting their creativity to the test. With the competition being held in the School of Architecture Fabrication Design Center, these student teams had the ability to use state of the art equipment and tools to design models of their solutions, thanks to the assistance of Dr. Yunsik Song, Fabrication Center Director and Abel Simie, Fabrication Center Manager. The teams  successfully built prototypes to use in their final presentations. The live demonstrations during the final presentations were exciting to see!

This semester’s Panthers Invent was sponsored by Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). Some of SNL’s most skilled engineers developed the needs statements presented to the students. These engineers  diligently worked with the student teams to solve the given problems. At the conclusion of the competition, SNL awarded the top three teams with cash prizes in the amounts of $1000, $750, and $500.

PVAMU is looking forward to the Spring 2023 Panthers Invent.
