Ethical Guidelines of The Ombuds

The Ombuds adheres to the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics of the International Ombuds Association (IOA). The tenets of the IOA (Confidentiality, Impartiality, Informality, and Independence) are the core values of The PVAMU Ombuds.

Confidentiality – Everything shared with the Ombuds is private. We do not share your identity or confidential information that can be specifically attributed to you. The exceptions are if you expressly give the Ombuds permission to share specifics, imminent risk of physical harm, or if required by law or by University policy.

Impartiality – We are objective, and do not take sides or favor one side over another. Our only interest is to understand the issues and help resolve the issues. We do not judge, dictate, or discipline.

Informality – We provide an informal, voluntary, off-the-record alternative that moves at your pace. The Ombuds is not a part of the formal process in any way. The Ombuds does not accept formal complaints or notice.

Independence – We are not bound by the traditional structure. As part of the Office of the President, the Ombuds reports only to President of PVAMU. The Ombuds maintains integrity by being autonomous, not unduly influenced, or working under duress.
