Welcome to the University Assessment Website

Assessment is the continuous process of gathering and using information. Academic, administrative support, educational support, public service, and research units should use program outcome data to implement and develop better programs. Because student learning is an important goal of assessment, outcome data should be used to guide curricular, co-curricular, environmental, and institutional improvement for students as much as possible. Assessment results are used not to evaluate individuals or programs. Rather, assessment results help a unit understand the extent to which it and the whole University are achieving their missions. Units should do the following on a continuous basis:

  • determine how to best use assessment data to improve student learning and customer experiences on campus;
  • determine how to best use assessment data to inform external constituencies; and
  • collaborate with others to implement strategies that promote learning outcomes.

A culture of assessment shows that an institution is paying attention to “what we say we are doing” and “what we want to do” and what is actually being achieved.
