Overview and Support to Departments

The Office of Student Services and Certification support educator preparation within all Departments of the Whitlowe R. Green College of Education (WRGCOE), including the PVAMU Alternative Teacher Certification Program, and the Office of Field Experiences and Clinical Teaching, by functioning as a liaison to each department and office as relates to the implementation of Texas Education Agency (TEA) educator certification program requirements, TEA program and testing updates, the identification and purchasing of effective test preparation resources, facilitation of testing supports, and requirements for certification. This office also collaborates with the Texas Education Agency, Title II, Departments within the WRGCOE, the university, and other entities regarding the collection and submission of educator data.

The Office of Student Services and Certification provides the following services to current and former educator candidates (all programs):

  • Intake and processing of requests for certification exam approval (all programs and exams) from current and former educator candidates
  • Intake and processing of candidate requests for certification (all certification areas) following verification of completion of testing and program requirements
  • Intake and processing of Out of State Verification Requests from former candidates and graduates
  • Intake and processing of Alternative Certification Program Transfer Requests
  • Intake of questions from current and former candidates related to testing and certification (Send inquiries to edcert@pvmau.edu)

The Office of Student Services and Certification provides the following supports to educator candidates within the Whitlowe R. Green College of Education:

  • Texas Education Agency Updates related to Testing and Certification
  • Materials and resources for TExES Exam preparation
  • Beginning of Semester Orientations for Teacher Education Candidates
  • Review and/or Content Support Opportunities (Sessions) for Teacher Education Candidates
  • Face to Face/Online Practice Exam Sessions for Teacher Education candidates
  • Online "Screener Exams" for applicants seeking Admission to Teacher Education
  • Individual Study Plans (as indicated by the Office of Student Services and Certification and/or the Department of Curriculum and Instruction)
