Create an optimal environment that supports learning, increases engagement, embraces diversity, and helps students persist in meeting academic challenges. ACUE’s Creating an Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment course equips instructors with evidence-based teaching practices that help them start the term strong, ensure equitable access to learning, and provide feedback necessary for students to improve their performance. Completing this course is one step toward becoming certified in ACUE’s Effective Teaching Practice Framework, endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE). This course contains 7 modules that take approximately 8 weeks to complete.

Effective Teaching Practices – Launching Fall 2024

Designed for new and seasoned instructors in any discipline, this course offers faculty a complete set of research-based teaching practices to build on their existing knowledge and expand their instructional toolkits. By prompting faculty to apply and reflect on their learning, this program helps to reinvigorate educators and ensure students experience dynamic and inspired teaching campus wide. This course is organized into four sections and takes approximately 25 weeks to complete.

  • Promoting Active Learning
  • Creating an Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment
  • Inspiring Inquiry and Preparing Lifelong Learners
  • Designing Learner-Centered and Equitable Courses
  • Faculty who complete this course will earn a Certificate in Effective College Instruction and digital badges, which can be added to your curriculum vitae, used in online teaching portfolios, and displayed on LinkedIn profiles or webpages as a sign of achievement.

ACUE’s Fostering a Culture of Belonging (FCB) microcredential equips any campus professional with actionable practices to ensure students and colleagues feel seen, heard, and valued.

Topics covered in this microcredential include:

  • Managing the Impact of Biases
  • Addressing Imposter Phenomenon and Stereotype Threat
  • Reducing Microaggressions
  • Cultivating an Inclusive Environment

This microcredential expands on the “Embracing Diversity in Your Learning Environment” module from ACUE’s Effective Practice Framework, endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE).

Upon Completion

Participants will receive recognition at the campus level and Texas A&M University System level (when the full ACUE credential is earned) for their participation in campus-based ACUE courses. Additionally, course takers earn credentials through ACUE – the only credentials of their type for post-secondary instructors recognized by the American Council on Education. Those who complete the course will also be eligible to attend the Recognition Ceremony held on campus to recognize and award participants who earn either a full or a micro credential from ACUE each academic year.
