The report highlights positive COVID-19 cases amongst youth and staff, rates of cases across a seven-month period following testing,and provides comparisons of the rates at Texas Juvenile Justice Department secure juvenile facilities with rates in Texas broadly and with rates in Texas prisons.
The Texas Juvenile Secure Facilities: 2020 Incident Trends report details incidents (e.g., assaults, use of pepper spray, escape attempts, etc) across 5 Texas Juvenile Justice Department secure juvenile facilities. Key findings from the report highlight that despite ongoing reform efforts, incident rates have not declined meaningfully by type or facility in recent years. Recommendations for reducing incidents are outlined in the conclusion of the report.
