Prairie View A&M University’s mission states: “… The university seeks to provide a high-quality educational experience for students who, upon completion of bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degrees, possess self-sufficiency and …”

We seek to enhance students’ professional competency by offering field trips that are designed to enforce class lectures and research in a way that helps students to experience potential careers in their fields of interest.

Our Center for Careers & Professional Development is committed to connecting students with potential employers well before graduation to help them gain valuable workplace exposure through off-campus experiential learning opportunities designed to give them valuable professional insights into different industries.

The main goal of the Careers in Action Program is to create observational opportunities that enhance class lectures, and in some cases, provide students with an in-person workplace experience that enables them to view themselves in various professions.

Every student comes to the classroom with a different world experience. To think broadly, students need to be exposed to real-world environments. The Center for Careers & Professional Development works with faculty and external organizations to provide students with opportunities to get outside the classroom and observe professional practices up close.

Our Careers in Action Program also offers faculty and staff the opportunity to accompany students to workplaces where students can learn about what people do in their fields of interest. Thus, helping students connect material learned in the classroom to work performed in a professional environment. This interaction with professionals gives students a worldview of the professions related to their disciplines. In addition, these experiences, which help sharpen the student’s professional focus, also broaden their perspective in various areas in which they may decide to focus their education, subsequently better defining their future careers.
