Disaster PRIMR 2023: Promoting Cultures of Preparedness at Prairie View A&M University

University Engagement in Disaster Preparedness, Response, Innovation, Mitigation and Recovery

About the Conference

Disasters are occurring more frequently and becoming more intense. Whether natural or human induced, they result in considerable negative impacts on communities. In addition, race and ethnic status at household and community levels have profound impacts on disaster experiences. These issues make it apparent that institutions such as 1890 land-grant universities (LGUs) and their partners have played critical coordination, engagement and educational roles in family and community disaster resilience. These institutions have a long history of “serving the underserved” and “reaching the unreached.” Therefore, the PRIMR Conference Organizing  Committee engaged the network of 1890 land-grant university partners to host the 2023 event. As in previous years, the conference will bring together a multidisciplinary group of scholars, educators, students, professionals, and practitioners who collectively possess extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of disaster research, education, and emergency management practice

Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), the 1890-EDEN Advisory Group and conference partners thus invite emergency management practitioners, allied professionals, researchers, educators, students, and community leaders to share their disaster best practices, lessons learned (or yet to be learned), and insights from all dimensions of disaster readiness at the 3rd annual Disaster PRIMR conference. The major goal of this conference is promoting cultures of preparedness among organizations across all sectors, innovating the ways we manage disaster events and strengthening our collective capacity to Prepare, Respond, Innovate, Mitigate, and Recover (PRIMR).
