PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (May 11, 2022; Updated May 14, 2022) – Prairie View A&M University awarded nearly 1,000 degrees to its spring graduates Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Panther Stadium.

“As an ‘institution of the first class,’ Prairie View A&M University has a rich history in carrying out our mission of teaching, research, and service, even in the most trying of times. I am proud of the work that all of our students have done to persevere and continue moving forward during the pandemic. In spite of the obstacles and challenges, our graduates have made it through,” said Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs James M. Palmer.

For PVAMU commencement coverage, stories of interest include:

Jeremy Daniels – Jeremy Daniels began his college career finding it difficult to navigate his major and unsure of what path he should take. After plugging into campus organizations, completing an internship, and becoming one of the first cohorts of Hewlett Packard Enterprise Houston’s HBCU Cyber Security students, he won 2nd place in the Best in Class: Technical Division competition, outpacing all 50 of the summer interns who competed at the Houston site. It was a first for both the HBCU Initiative team and the entire global security organization. Daniels will be ending his college career Saturday to begin his dream career as a Cyber Threat Intelligence Analyst with Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

Salim H. Salim Jr. – Salim H. Salim Jr. is a first-generation college student, an experience he shares with his siblings and cousins. He chose to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical adolescent psychology at PVAMU to help African American children, who appear to be disproportionately diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Salim is the first male graduate to obtain a Ph.D. in PVAMU’s clinical adolescent psychology program. The program was established in 2004.

LaTrinidy Mike – LaTrinidy Mike was initially accepted into PVAMU in 2006 with the desire to achieve a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Mike took classes here and there but continued to focus on other pursuits. In 2018, she became an author. The experience opened many doors for Mike, but a layoff and a pandemic left her unsure of how she’d achieve something she’d begun years prior. She said prayers, and a Panther Success Grant email, coupled with the CARES Act, renewed her resolve. In the summer of 2021, Mike applied and was admitted into PVAMU’s BBA program. Mike completed her degree requirements within a year and a half. She credits her success to wanting to be a “better her” for her son.
