GPA CALCULATIONS FOR UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION DECISION

Did you know that PVAMU recalculates your high school transcript GPA to keep all students on the same GPA – 4.0 scale?

When calculating the GPA of a high school transcript, the university uses the following formula:

Example:

A  100-90 (4 points for each grade)  23 A’s x 4 =  92
B    89-80 (3 points for each grade)  20 B’s x 3 =  60
C    79-75 (2 points for each grade)     3 C’s x 2 =     6
D    74-70 (1 point for each grade)      9 D’s x 1 =     9
F    69 – 0 (0 points for each grade)    0 F’s x 0 =     0
___________________________________
55       /       167 = 3.036 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Honors, Dual Credit, Advanced Placement, and International-baccalaureate courses receive an increased letter grade. For example, if a student completed an honors course and received a “B” they are given credit for an “A.” Credit is given for courses taken in grades 9-12 only; If a grade received is below 69 but credit is awarded, we will award an additional letter grade; GPA recalculations do not include local credits and courses taken in middle school.
