Principles of Effective Learning

CURR 1013
A study of the research and theory in the psychology of learning, cognition, motivation, as well as the factors that influence learning, and the application of learning strategies. Theoretical model of strategic learning, cognition, and motivation serves as the conceptual basis for instruction. The course content is divided into a four-part model (the Effective Learning Model) consisting of self-assessment, cognitive theories, self-regulation, and strategies for self- change.

Effective Learning Seminar enables learners to adopt a more inquiry-based approach to learning and create greater connections between ideas, concepts, and themes across the curricula. Learners will apply real-world situations to course content and efficiently retain and apply theories and concepts taught in core and major courses.

Testing Services

The mission of the Office of Testing is to support student retention and success by providing examinations and resources that assist with academic and professional advancement. The Office of Testing supports and promotes the institutional mission of Prairie View A&M University and the academic mission of the Division of Academic Enhancement by administering local, state and national test programs and by providing centralized evaluation services for all students, faculty, and the surrounding community. We adhere to the Professional Standards and Guidelines established by the National College Testing Association (NCTA).

The University Tutoring Center is a component of the Division of Academic Student Support Services at Prairie View A&M University! Our services are available to all undergraduate students enrolled for credit in targeted PVAMU courses.
