• Who can vote in Texas?
    • United States Citizen;
    • Resident of the Texas county in which you apply;
    • At least 18 years old by election day (November 3rd)
    • Not finally convicted of a felony, or, if so convicted must have (1) fully discharged the sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or completed a period of probation ordered by any court; or (2) been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote; and
    • Not determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be (1) totally mentally incapacitated; or (2) partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.

  • To register to vote in Texas, applications must be received or postmarked by October 5th.
  • You should receive a voter registration certificate in the mail once your registration application is processed. Once received, sign it and take it to the polls with you.
  • Make sure that you have at least one (1) of these acceptable forms of photo ID:
    • Texas Drivers License
    • S. Passport (book or card)
    • Texas Personal ID Card
    • S. Military ID Card with Photo
    • S. Citizenship Certificate with Photo
    • Texas Election ID Certificate
    • Texas Handgun License
  • Voter Registration Certificate (if received)

  • What is Early Voting?
    • Early voting is a way to cast your ballot before election day. Early voting in Texas lasts from October 13th through October 30th.
  • How to Early Vote?
    • In Person: Early voting can be done in person at a designated voting location in the county you are registered. For more information click here.

  • By Mail: If you are unable to vote in person, you can request a ballot by mail or absentee ballot. To request ballot by mail you must fill, print and sign the form here. Once complete, return the form to your early voting clerk.
  • Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd.
  • If you are registered in Waller County, you can vote on election day in the Memorial Student Center.
  • You must present at least one of the acceptable forms of photo identification.
  • What is the Challenge?
    • This year we will be challenging students to not only vote, but vote early in a campus wide challenge. The PVAMU Early Vote Challenge is a nonpartisan competition between on campus housing residents, off campus students, and student organizations. After election day, the winning team will be announced and the members of that team will be entered into a raffle to win one of our PVAMU Votes Prize Bags! One lucky student will even score the grand prize, the PVAMU Votes Ultimate Experience!

  • Step 3: Participate in early voting in the county that you are registered to vote. Early voting starts October 13th through October 30th.
  • Step 4: Submit your PV Early Vote Pledge completing the short form here.
  • An absentee ballot is available for voters who are unable to vote in person. As a college student, you qualify to request a ballot by-mail from the state you are registered to vote. Use this link to find additional information about requesting and submitting an absentee ballot.
  • If your state doesn’t automatically send you an absentee ballot or a form to fill out to request one:
    • Go to Can I Vote and select your state from the dropdown menu
    • Or use this website to help you complete an absentee ballot request for your state
  • Be sure to follow your state’s deadlines for requesting and returning your absentee ballot. State deadlines are listed here. Be sure to make note of if your state requires the ballot to be postmarked or received.
    • For example, Texas requires absentee ballots to be requested by October 23rd postmarked by November 3rd and received by November 4th.
  • It is important to make an informed decision. Voting guides and sample ballots can aid you in showing you who will be running local, state, and federally. You should review the candidates before casting your vote.
