Graduating Seniors, learn about how to win the prestigious 1st Annual Poindexter Award of $2,000.

Prairie View A&M University has received a charitable gift to establish an endowed service award to benefit graduating student scholars.  Beginning in May of 2025, graduating seniors can submit their record of public service for review by the Division of Student Affairs. Winners of the Alfred N. and Rachel T. Poindexter Family Service Award for Exemplary Public Service will be selected and announced at the Spring  Alumni Pinning Ceremony on May 15, 2025. The deadline for applications is May 2nd at 11:59 pm.

The Alfred N. and Rachael T. Poindexter Family Award for Exemplary Public Service is support by the children of Alfred N. and Rachael T. Poindexter: Alfred N. Poindexter, III, M.D., Bruce A. Poindexter, Paula M. Poindexter, Ph.D., and Yvette M. Poindexter, M.D.

How to Qualify

Award Criteria and Requirements:

  • 2.85 GPA
  • Updated cover letter and resume
  • 3 maximum recommendation letter(s)
  • A minimum of 30 Recorded Community Service Hours During the 2024-2025 Academic Year
  • You must be a Graduating Senior (May 2025 only).
  • Complete the Official Application, Including a Scholarly Essay (minimum 500 words).
  • Indicate What Your Plans are After Graduation and how you would use the $2,000 Award.
