Panther Meal Share Program

The Panther Meal Share Program at Prairie View A&M University was created to address students’ basic needs, thereby ending food insecurity on campus among our student population. The program seeks to make food more accessible to students on campus. The program operates in solid partnership with the Sodexo Dining Services Management and the national Swipe-Out-Hunger organization.

About the Program

The Panther Meal Share Program is available to students who commute to campus, do not have a meal plan, and/or those who have a meal plan but do not have sufficient meals to cover their needs for the semester. The program is available to both our residential and commuting students. The number of meals distributed will depend on the number of meals available for distribution as well as the amount of funds available to purchase meals.

Students in need of assistance may register at PV Swipe Out Hunger to be considered. Eligible students facing food insecurity may receive up to 30 meal swipes on their I.D. cards per semester.

Program Support and Sponsorship

Sodexo, our on-campus dining service, and national partner for Swipe Out Hunger, will sponsor a limited number of meal swipes to students’ accounts. The Division for Student Affairs Panther Meal Share Program will determine the need for meal swipes. All inquiries should be directed to panthermealshare@pvamu.edu.

Program Roots

Prairie View A&M University has partnered with Swipe Out Hunger, a national nonprofit committed to ending college student hunger. Swipe Out Hunger works with colleges and universities to design and implement a range of anti-hunger programs across its network of 400+ campuses. Through this national program, Prairie View A&M University’s Division of Student Affairs has created the Panther Meal Share Program. The new program will work in concert with the existing Hill Top Reserve Food Pantry to address student hunger on campus.

The Panther Meal Share program is set to kick off this spring semester, January 2022. A soft launch of the program began at the end of the fall 2021 semester, providing over 50 meals to students who requested support.
