PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (December 6, 2024) – Harshica Fernando, Ph.D., has been awarded $659,000 in grant funding from the Department of Defense. Fernando is an associate professor of chemistry in the Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences at Prairie View A&M University.
PVAMU’s esteemed faculty researchers Sameh Abdelwahed, Ananda Amarasekara, Yunxiang Gao, Gururaj Neelgund, Andrea Oseolorun, and Merlyn Pulikkathara will also serve as co-principal investigators for the project.
The purpose of this grant is to acquire a Scanning X-Ray Photoelectron Spectrometer (XPS) to support and enhance multidisciplinary research within the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Prairie View A&M University. This advanced instrument will enable faculty and students to analyze the chemical composition and surface properties of materials with precision. The acquisition of the XPS system will expand research capabilities across various fields, including materials science, nanotechnology, and environmental studies. The grant aims to foster collaboration among researchers, advance scientific knowledge, and provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities for students, strengthening the university’s research infrastructure and its contributions to scientific innovation.
