PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (December 9, 2024) – Marco Robinson, Ph.D., has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the American Council of Learned Societies. Dr. Robinson is an associate professor of history and assistant director of the Ruth J. Simmons Center for Race and Justice at Prairie View A&M University.
Ronald E. Goodwin, Ph.D., interim chair of the Division of Social Sciences, and Phyllis Earles, head of Special Collections and Archives at the PVAMU Library, will assist Dr. Robinson with the project.
The project, in collaboration with Texas A&M University-Kingsville, seeks to advance equity in digital humanities by supporting early-stage initiatives that highlight the histories of marginalized communities and promote innovation through new methods and materials. It emphasizes capacity building by training students, developing community partnerships, and fostering collaboration across institutions, all while promoting inclusive and accessible knowledge creation.
This project addresses disparities in access to digital tools and resources, prioritizing scholars working with understudied materials or at institutions with limited support for digital projects. Additionally, grant recipients will receive financial planning coaching from the Nonprofit Finance Fund to help establish sustainable, long-term strategies for their work.
