PVAMU CITE is ready to start Phase 2 of the G Suite migration to Microsoft Office 365. This means we will be moving the documents in your Google Drive to Microsoft One Drive. The purpose of this project is to move ALL your content from your Google Drive to your Microsoft One Drive. Once the migration is completed, PVAMU will decommission Google Drive.
From now on, you should use your Microsoft One Drive as your official PVAMU online storage.

What changes can you expect on your Google Drive and One Drive?

The following changes will occur on your One Drive
  1. You will see the files you had in your Google Drive (drive.google.com) copied over to your new One Drive (https://onedrive.live.com/).
  2. If you had previously copied files from Google Drive to One Drive, those old files will show up in your One Drive again as a copy.
  3. If you have file(s) in your One Drive, they will not be modified.
  4. Files in your Google Drive will not be modified. We ask that you don’t use your Google Drive any longer. Please use your One Drive.

When will I see these changes?

Starting this week and continuing through the end of the month, you will notice your files move from your Google Drive to Microsoft One Drive.

When will my data be migrated?

After your files are migrated, you will receive an email telling you that your files were copied over. You will get an option to report any issues back to IT if you notice any issues with your data, or you can use the “Report an Office 365 Migration Issue” button.

Phase 1 – Completed

The PVAMU Center for Information Technology Excellence (CITE) team has completed the migration from Gmail to Outlook.

The migration from Gmail to Office 365 is nearly complete, and you have access to your Outlook (@pvamu.edu) account at www.office.com. Starting Friday April 2, 2021, you will no longer be able to use your Gmail account to send and receive emails as we finish migrating student emails to Microsoft O365 .

Over the weekend, during the final steps of the migration from Gmail to Office365, there may be times that emails sent to your @student.pvamu.edu will take longer to be available in your Outlook inbox.

You can download the Outlook App from the Google or Apple App stores. (Your new Outlook calendar will sync best with the Outlook App.)

Anything sent to your @student.pvamu.edu account will forward for now; however, we ask that you transition any accounts using @student.pvamu.edu to @pvamu.edu sooner rather than later.

Although you will retain access to your Google Drive, now is a good time to clean out and back up files to ensure you have access to them while we are migrating documents to your Microsoft OneDrive.

Before you delete items, here are some quick things to consider during clean-up:

  • Make sure you don’t have duplicate files/folders.
  • Delete the unneeded copy.
  • Delete any old files/folders that you no longer need.
  • Remove old calendar entries, especially those with large attachments.
  • Empty your deleted folder.

Once the migration is complete, all Faculty, Staff & Students will have an “@ pvamu.edu” email address and login.

Within the next few weeks:
  • You’ll receive instructions to help clean up your files.
  • You’ll receive instructions on how to set up your mobile device after the move.
  • You’ll get some quick training on new features.
  • You’ll get an email when your migration starts.
  • When the migration begins, you will lose access temporarily, but all emails will be redirected to your new email system.
  • When the migration is complete everything will be moved and will be in the same folder as they were in the source.

Communications

We are still migrating accounts. We will provide information about what to expect and new features that will be available to you in Office 365. Keep checking your PVAMU student email and this website for updates.
