Are you a first-generation college student? If so, what does that mean to you?

I am, and it means the absolute world to me to be at the forefront of education for my family. Being the first person in my family to graduate college establishes a precedent that future generations can follow.

Which experiences, organizations, extracurriculars, service opportunities, internships, etc., were beneficial to you at PVAMU?

I was a part of the Prairie View A&M University Honors Program (HPX) and Undergraduate Medical Academy. These organizations allowed me to gain internships and further my opportunities post-graduate. They also allowed me to network with other successful students on campus.

I also interned for the Summer Health Professions Education Program (UT-McGovern Medical School) and at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital. I feel these internships help me stand out as a candidate for Medical School and further allow me to pursue my passion for becoming an Anesthesiologist.

What is next for you?

I have a job lined up at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital as a Grossing Technician. I look forward to gaining experience working in a clinical setting and networking with others to further my passion.

Why PVAMU?

PVAMU put me in the best position to succeed and stand out as an individual. The University allowed me to mold myself into a better person through education, culture, and passion. PVAMU helped shape me into the man I am today and allowed me to become resilient and resourceful, and challenged my intuition and fortitude. The programs I participated in left a lasting impression and pushed me to have a global impact.

Do you have any advice for others coming behind?

Keep an open mind and build relationships with as many people as you can.
