Lockheed Martin Engineering Mentorship Program

Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) College of Engineering’s (COE) Professional Mentoring Program aims to facilitate the professional development of engineering students. Students are paired with engineers and PVAMU alumni that are currently engaged in the engineering profession and can provide valuable guidance, counsel and networking opportunities.

Program Objectives

  1. Provide students with meaningful and useful career guidance
  2. Facilitate a bridge between academia and industry for student participants
  3. Increase the student’s career network* by providing an avenue to communicate with engineers currently engaged in the engineering profession
  4. To offer insight on the career transition and explore various perspectives on topics like evaluating job offers, navigating the workplace, and work-life balance
  5. Facilitate a bridge between students, alumni and professionals for an exchange of information on education, professionalism, aspirations and ideas
  6. Provide learning experiences for students outside the classroom
    • Real-world career advice
    • Guidance regarding industry job expectations
    • Information on current and future industry trends
    • Professional networking opportunities
    • Personal experiences from the workplace

The mentor guidelines and student responsibilities are provided to assist with establishing the one‐to‐one relationship between a current student and a volunteer engineer. The recommendations supply valuable guidance, information, and networking related to the student’s professional development.

Prospective mentors and student mentees can submit their information for review. Following an application and approval, students, alumni and professionals will be matched for a semester or year-long mentoring relationship.
