Prairie View A&M University shares the sorrows and joys of life within our university’s community and community as a whole. We want to provide service(s) needed in times when humanity is faced with bereavement.
The Johnson Phillip All Faiths Chapel is available to students, staff, faculty, alumni and their children or grandchildren. If a loved one has passed away, the Chapel is available as a venue for your funeral and or memorial service.
If you would like to host your loved one’s funeral or memorial service in the Chapel, the information below will guide you through the planning and scheduling process.

Reservations for all funerals and memorial services are made by calling 936.261.3592/3590; or emailing us at allfaiths@pvamu.edu. Please provide some information about your deceased, dates and times that you are requesting.
For example: I am writing to request the Chapel for my loved one’s funeral service. (Give the name of the deceased) I am looking at the (date and time).
Frequently Asked Questions
The Johnson-Phillip All Faiths Chapel is available to Prairie View’s students, faculty, staff and alumni. Also, we give special permission for employees, retirees and the Waller County community. Special permission may be granted for others outside of these parameters.
The Johnson-Phillip All Faiths Chapel can hold up to 350-400 people. The charge for the building may range between (affiliated with the university $300.00 non-affiliated individuals $400.00) the check should be made payable to Prairie View A&M University. In the memo line please write JPAFC.
Please note: Funerals may be held only in two locations. The Johnson-Phillip All Faiths Chapel or Opal Johnson-Smith Auditorium located in the Memorial Student Center. (You may call the center for their fees for using that building)
If you would like the Dean of the Chapel to preside over the service please contact his administrative assistant. Many times an honorarium is not expected; however, the honoraria in the range of $200 to $250 are often given as a gesture of appreciation for the minister’s time and care.
If you would like the chapel to secure a musician to play at the funeral, an honorarium for their service should be given directly to that individual. The range should be between $175.00 to $200.00; the honorarium should be given privately to them, not to Prairie View A&M University.
Parking is limited in front of the Chapel. The Hearst, Family car and Flower cars have permission to park in front of the Chapel. Other cars may park in the designated parking lots assigned. Prairie View A&M University’s parking attendants will direct traffic to the assigned lots.
The Johnson Phillip All Faiths Chapel, unfortunately, does not have space available for receptions after services. We are more than welcome to suggest some buildings on and off campus. . Please email us for more information.
